Pol Sambal

Pol sambal is a tangy blend of freshly grated coconut with onions, cayenne pepper and lemon juice. A perfect and delicious side dish for Appam, Dosa, rice or even chapti!


2 cups grated fresh coconut
2 small yellow onions
1 small red onion
2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
1 tsp cayenne pepper powder (or to taste)
2 tsp paprika powder
Juice from 2 limes (or to taste)
1 small bunch of cilantro leaves


* You can finely chop both kinds of onions and cilantro leaves or you can chop them in the food processor to save time.

* Mix the chopped onions and cilantro with grated coconut.

* Add cayenne pepper powder, paprika and salt.

* Add lime juice.

* Mix well until everything is well incorporated.

* Serve with desired snack like Appam, Dosa, idli, or even rice.
